One of the better Final Fantasyesque mudds. Although they try to throw together elements from the fractured genre spawns of FF1 through FFXII onto a base Rom backdrop, there are quite a few interesting elements to this world. All spells have to be found and studied by a correct class before they can be cast. Magicite can be brought back to life through materia craft and used in combat to learn spells. Weapons can be crafted and enhanced with materia. There are nineteen classes available: bard, battlerager, black mage, blue mage, red mage, white mage, caller, chemist, dancer, elementalist, engineer, gambler, lancer, mystic, ninja, rune knight, summoner, sword knight, and thief. There is a huge world with over 500 levels of game time. Relics and specialty items do everything from giving an extra counter attack to extra cast--these items are based on the old questmaster system though; so, get use to running around the mud trying to find messengers or marked mobs for quest items. Although they officially list themselves as having Player Killing, there is none. They have the same type of 'challenge' system that Everquest came up with: I challenge you to a duel, they type accept, and you try to kill each other. Real PK requires sneaking up on botters and laying them out. The people in charge require name verification at level 20, description verification at level 50, and background verification at 100. Its can take some time for a consensus to be reached. This game is best played with a group of friends. Experience is not divided among characters, unlike most FF games; thus, you might as well get five of your friends together and pawn the mudd. A good play for people with lots of time and bored friends. It is not worth the effort for normal players due to the lack of playerbase and available information.

A good play for people with lots of time and bored friends. It is not worth the effort for normal players due to the lack of playerbase and available information.] Ivalice is a very unique mud. Being first a player and now staff I must say I disagree with the above comment. Yes, its easier to gain levels in the realm of Ivalice with a said group but soloing isn't so difficult either. Many things are offered in the realm to keep one occupied. *Quests *(NEW)AQ-Advanced Quests are a new feature coded by your very own Raum that allow for dynamic quests using an easy interface that is Builder-friendly. They allow for quests to have unique scripts and rewards rather than natural questing, although they may take more time to complete as a result. The rewards are usually worth it. *Roleplaying *A community of friends:Some of the players here at Ivalice have been around for 5+ years and some as well as 10+ years. *Helpful Players/Staff:If you have a question, more than likely if it is asked it will be answered. We have . a lot of mud veterans and are willingly to help out any newbies. *Our realm is always under-going many changes and updates to bring the players the best we can offer! Of course there is a lot more I could say about Ivalice but one wouldn't know until they checked it out for themselves. So I challenge you. Give us a shot and see what you think. ~Ky~

To sum up this review in a few words - this is the best MUD I have ever been involved with. I've been checking in on it and playing on and off for years, and years, ever since the first incarnation back in the 90s. It is the only MUD on the internet that has actually had the substance to keep me coming back, and the only MUD that has managed to hold my attention this entire time. The MUD is Final Fantasy themed, but is still very accessible to non-FF fans. Thus, I recommend it highly to absolutely everyone. Very, very highly recommended.

This mud used to be fun, had lots to do. Now it stinks big time. All there is to do is kill. You cannot even train or practice anything. Other than Final fantasy based RP or building some area for the game, there is nothing to do when you max out. It used to be a good mud, had a little more diversity. Now, thanks to recent changes its as awful as 90% of all the other muds on here.

The above comment from Brahmus shows that he has not played, at all, in quite some time. There's things to do from level 1 to 500. Once you hit max level, there's still multiple things to do - not even taking into consideration quests or areas. No, there is no more Training and Practicing. Why? Because in short, characters were the luck of hte draw previously. You had a 50/50 chance at having a good, or a bad character. It is set up now to where practices are not necessary - If you have the skill, you have the skill. Trains were for Stat Gains - Stat gains are now static every few levels, rather than giving you 1 train point when you level like everywhere else. There are multiple quests, and ranks for players that grant skills, as well as additional, and normally unattainable spells, skills and gear. If you don't like it, that's fine. Simply don't play. Just make sure you have your facts straight when doing so, rather than spouting off a bunch of nonsense.

At the time of the first comment's writing, Ivalice had many customizable options. Skills, spells and other abilities to master, automated quests and unique area based tasks were abundant at that time. Now, Ivalice has gotten more detailed and is expanding its functions. As mentioned, Ivalice no longer relies on the practice and train system. However, customization of character attributes is still possible using a temporary method(materia bonding), and a more permanent method (Magitek Surgery), as well as conventional customization such as equipment, spells, and skills. As for things to do aside from min-maxing your character, Ivalice is also a host to a huge variety of non-level based puzzles, tasks that teach a player about the science and magic behind synthesis, with special events held monthly by yours truly. There are also 'roleplay gear', which will allow you to alter your character by means only possible with roleplay, including the addition of special character effects and features. We also have regular roleplay, and we now hold something called 'Roleplay Weekends', where we have special incentives for roleplaying over the weekend. Ivalice has never been 'only about killing'. We continue to offer unique things for our players to do, as well as promote friendly and open player (and staff) interactivity. Take it from me. I'm practically Ivalice's player satisfaction Immortal.

As both a mortal and as a IMM/Staff Member on several muds, I've seen quite a good bit in the past five years or so in my mudding experience. I've seen a few muds rise and a few fall in my time. I've played a lot of different types of muds in the past years or so, but by far in my opinion, Ivalice is my favorite. There is a little of something here at Ivalice for everyone. Whether it varies from Roleplay, exceptional items and equipment or quests, Ivalice has it all. Ivalice for the most past is a helpful social group of people, which is a joy to take part in I must say. So whether you're a knowledgeable veteran to muds or just a newbie looking for a place to call home, this is the place to stop by. So come visit Ivalice and let the world fade away and your imaginativeness take over. You won't be disappointed, so come check us out!

Well, IvaliceMud has changed a lot, and here's my review for what has been happening for the last few months. The world of Ivalice has expanded significantly. Several new areas have been added to the world since my last review, providing an even greater amount of exploration, unique challenges and rewards to the players. In addition to the world's expansion, the rules of Ivalice have been relaxed, especially the naming rules. The naming rules now allow common-word names, and variations (Such as Blackhawk, or SilverEye) provided they do not disrupt the IC world. (With names such as FluffyDwarfHunter) For the staff, their numbers have dwindled slightly, but there are still three immortals who handle the basic functions of the mud well enough. The owner of the mud is working on something big, which I'll bring up later. As for the helpers and players, there are ususally enforcers(AKA: Trusted Players) around at some time of the day, and the range from all ages, creeds, and origins. There's no discrimination among who is chosen, provided they can effectively use a keyboard without having to resort to the frequently used 'Computer Shorthand' and they prove that they are willing and able to help maintain the peace in Ivalice. Further on the helpers, the builders(Players with Building permissions) are few, but are hard working. Training is available for new, inexperienced builders. Builders who know what they're doing may build, but will still need to have atleast one character at level 100 in order to demonstrate knowledge of IvaliceMud's layout and general atmosphere. The immortal in charge of building projects has left for service in the American military, so some requests are delayed but not ignored, as other immortals are capable of handling it. Further on the player side, Ivalice has a diverse range of players. Players join in world-wide to participate in the events, roleplaying, and hack-and-slash goodness. Our players are ususally so different from each other that it's impossible to really give a review for them as a whole, as they come from all places with their own stories to tell. On a more technical standpoint, Ivalice's system has recieved a memory upgrade, meaning less lag due to an overburdened RAM. Which is good for all of us. Switching from hardware to software, Ivalice's Coder and Owner, Raum, is working on a series of massive changes to Ivalice. This includes, but is not limited to, new classes, complete skill revamps for ALL current classes to encompass all 500 levels of play, new battle systems and style, a unique way of getting new skills and abilities, a new leveling system, a dynamic HP/Mana system based on current Stamina, Magic and level instead of the previous method of 'gains' at time of level up. And there's still more, and tons of mystery and rumors going about that have people on the edge of their seat, waiting for the reshaping of the world. As for the IC world, there are RP events in the making, and there are goals to have an event every month by the immortals and trusted players(Enforcers) of Ivalice. For regular, non-IC events, I and a few of the other players host our own brand of trivia to spread the wealth of gil, but occassionally you'll see the staff of Ivalice getting into the game by preforming various OOC games. For the website, Ivalice has changed their main website for a more appealing look. All roleplay(either the gossip channel, or rooms flagged as 'roleplay' by the players) is logged and stored for everyone to see on the website. Also, most of the quest reward information is also displayed for players to use as a reference. Ivalice also has its own forum, which is run off of the website. The forum contains various bits of information about the game, upcoming changes, general banter, Forum games, as well as some information about the players themselves. Additionally, there is a name generator for the convenience of new players/new characters, as well as an Al'Bhed to English translator, for those players wishing to play Al'Bhed characters, right down to the language they speak. Overall, Ivalice is headed for a major upgrade, and has been building up towards it since it was announced on Ivalice's Forums. Some of the problems of the past still linger in Ivalice's current state, but are being addressed. For now, I say Ivalice is a great mud, but will soon become one of the best, despite a few hauntings of problems from the past. We'll have to see what the changes do to the game, and I'll give my thoughts again when that happens.

I agree with Nai. This game is very fun, and addictive at times. Most of the players are very nice individuals, there are a few bad apples but that can be said for any game. The gameplay is solid and it offers a large selection of Final Fantasy based classes. Areas are large and nicely detailed and the equipment and item selection is quite big. Raum has put in many nice additions like magicite, materia, and random equipment. Most of the Imms are quite helpful and run quests to break up any form of lull time which occurs. Along with quests there is a good bit of RP which takes place, and is quite solid as well. So if you are looking for a fun game, either Final Fantasy based or just a new place to call home, I would suggest dropping by Ivalice just to see what is going on.

I've been here for a while now. I've never had a problem. This mud is very player friendly. The staff are really good people and there is always someone that will point you in the right direction. While RP is not pushed onto people, it is very highly encouraged. So what are you waiting for? Stop reading the reviews and give it a shot!
MudConnector.Com Review (Archived) by on Apr 2, 2006
Ivalice is easily one of the greatest and overlooked muds out there. Since I've started playing, I've noticed that Ivalice is closer to a living being than it is a simple game. It changes with time, and is influenced by those who are within it. If you want a purely original environment, this isn't for you. Ivalice is hugely inspired off of the FF series, as well as several other games within the same genre. What's GOOD about the game? The coding, the various systems within the systems, the homeland and class system. The fact that its always getting new additions. These qualities of Ivalice keep you entertained and wondering 'What's next?' What's BAD about the game? The lack of the benefits a large playerbase gets you. The playerbase is small. The RP is limited due to a lack of interested RPers. The clans are inactive, at best. While there ARE people playing, don't expect more than 40 people on at any given time. If you want a game that is loaded with features filled with nearly endless possibilities, this is definitely for you. If you want a mud where you can influence and inflict change, this is definitely for you.
MudConnector.Com Review (Archived) by on Mar 19, 2006
I would add a short comment to the bad section. While there are changes they come at extremely low rates. An example is the Homeland Skill for Madain Sari, which has been in the design state for almost a year now. Most of the staff are nice, though some seem to have perpetual bad days and it will sometimes show in their attitudes. Especially when they turn on Social Point usage and force people to RP instead of talk over the OOC Channel. Not sure about everyone else but I do come on a Game to talk to friends, not be forced into RPing when I do not feel up to it. But like I said if you are looking for a Final Fantasy based game this is one of the more long running, and somewhat accurate, ones out there. Just do not expect changes to happen at a normal pace.
MudConnector.Com Review (Archived) by on Mar 28, 2006
Regarding the 'Lack of Changes' - As everyone who reads the boards and forums are well aware of, all changes are being done on a non-active port for a major update to all the code, rather than 50000 reboots daily to implement new ideas. Don't use one instance regarding a homeland skill (Which, by the way, was given to the players for suggestions, which resulted in nothing.) and say that every change is slow and nonexistent.
