A dystopian superhero MUSH, Starfall strikes a balance between a compelling original setting and a free form, collaborative sandbox. Think two parts X-Men to one part Mad Max. The emphasis here is on original characters, with flexible rules to accommodate a wide range of concepts. The theme provides suggestions, of course. There are several factions your character could join, each with its own goals and ideology; even an alien species or two if that's your style. But nearly any idea could fit, from ordinary humans to mutants to wizards to cyborgs. It all hangs together because staff and players are on the same page in creating an interesting, balanced place to roleplay. There are no stats or numbers on your character's sheet; you're encouraged to describe powers and weaknesses in a few paragraphs. In my experience, chargen was not too difficult, and there is usually a staffer around to answer questions or provide helpful suggestions. The playerbase so far has been small. Then the game went down for a few weeks. However they've changed hosts, and there are plans to keep Starfall up and running for the foreseeable future. I've been uniformly impressed by the quality and creativity on display here, and by the friendly, fair staff. I hope the game will continue to grow. This is something special.
