Asgard's Honor is a rich, dark fantasy text-based online multi-user game. For some, text-based games can't compete with the likes of EverQuest and other graphical MMOGs. However, Asgard's Honor offers a much greater depth and a more intimate feel than other games can provide. Asgard's Honor, which was created by players and wizards (game developers) from a much older text-based MUD, Valhalla, opened in 1998. The game is stats based with players earning experience through combat and spending the experience on stats and skills or levels. Players may progress from level 1 through 10, with each new level allowing the player to raise their stats/skills an additional 10 points. Along the way, the player is able to join guilds (which give discounts to certain stats), some of which require the player to complete quests as they raise in level. Initially, the player must choose from over 10 different races or to create their own (which requires them to start with minimal stats) to create a new character. From there, they start as an adventurer and are able to venture out and gain experience. Eventually, the player will join a guild (required in order to progress beyond level 1), there are currently 14 in the game and some of them must be found as their entrances are hidden. The guilds, as mentioned above, provide the player with discounts on stats and skills and allow players to raise on guild stat an additional 10 points. Some guilds have special requirements. For instance, the Bard guild requires each Bard to audition for their next level by "singing" a song or poem for the mud and other players vote to decide if the Bard may advance in level. Another example is the Samurai guild, where players must have a clean "honor list" before they advance. For an honor list to be clean, the Samurai must defeat any monster they have died to since the last time they went up a level. Probably the most detailed portion of the Asgard's Honor world is the magic and combat systems. There are several forms of magic, from straight striking spells, to prayer (protective) magic, to healing magic, mental and elemental magics. Each has its own sets of spells and requires their skills be developed over time in order for the full list of spells to be available to the player. The depth of the magic system is seen best in the strike spells, of which there are 11 different spells of increasing complexity (read do more damage). Each spell does a certain type of damage, either bash, slash, or thrust damage. Each spell can also be focused to a certain type of damage, such as light or shadow, acid or fire. Monsters and players alike can have resistance to different types of damage (either from protective spells or weapons and armors that confer protection to the player or monster). By learning the right combination, players can do more damage to monsters through their damage It...
