Established in 1992, Worlds of Carnage is a fantasy based, hack-and-slash MuD with heavily modified Diku. Roleplay and PK go hand in hand on Worlds of Carnage as it is full PK and roleplay encouraged. Most players choose not to actively PK, but there are those that do and can offer up a very good challenge for any interested. The roles of characters can range anywhere from the basic premise of good vs. evil to the more complex, but they all seem to have their own foibles. Alignment restritcions are null for classes which can allow a Paladin to be so consumed by what he feels is his righteous acts that he is infact evil, or a necromancer to study death without being inherently evil in doing so. As stated in the help file for a necromancer: Necromancer Dedication The subject of death has always raised a degree of fear in the common people. For this reason Necromancers are often considered to have dark and evil machinations. While it is true that many who study this area are in pursuit of less than honourable goals, this is not always the case. Necromancers spend much of their time observing the effects of death and how it can be controlled. To this end they can control some aspects of death itself, in small and large part, to ply its effects on the living or to temporarily reverse its effects on those who have already succumbed. PK is something that is enforced mainly by the players. If a higher level kills someone much lower within the limits of their roleplay it is within the rules of the MuD, however random pk is frowned upon by the immortals. There is a limit of 75 levels for a character, at which they become a Living Legend. However, characters do not max out as they can continue to gain in experience. Since gains in hit, mana, movement points are not based on level it is possible for a character to grow in size. The same applies for practice sessions which are used to practice skills from teachers found around the world or from tomes (many of the best skills, if not all are found in tomes.) For anyone worried that they may never catch up to the size of older characters, the gains do slow down as the max experience accumulated increases, which creates a nice curve allowing for there to still be some level of competition between some of the older and newer players. Players who may get tired of the character they have spent hours playing have an option to rebirth. This will restart the character completely with a penalty of 1/4 the maximum experience. An example would be, Gluck a 100 million experience troll warrior/warrior wishes to rebirth. Upon doing so Gluck is penalised 25 million experience, and remakes his character as a 75 million experience centaur shaman/thief known as Elwyd. This can be beneficial or in some cases detrimental. rebirth...
